A bundled set of applications collectively referred to as an office suite.
The number of applications have grown substantially but this basic introduction will focus on the more popular applications.

Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets.
Its proprietary .XLS format is also considered a de facto standard.

Microsoft Word for word processing.
Its proprietary .DOC format is also considered a de facto standard. Word 2007 also supports other formats: .DOCX, ODF, and PDF.

Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations.
It is used to create slideshows, composed of text, graphics, movies and other objects. Convenient for school or work presentations.

Microsoft Access for a relational database management system.
It has a graphical user interface and software development tools.
